"Young Māori Poetry" club as a creative pursuit
Outside of this project, Mihikeita Ngata makes up one half of MITA Creative. It is a creative studio built alongside her partner, which has seen her learn how to illustrate, design, manufacture, and self-publish 2 pukapuka for pēpi.
These are now stocked in galleries and museums around Aotearoa, and are also featured in 56+ libraries across the motu.
This venture felt like a natural progression toward developing her writing skills before moving on to self-publish a poetry book.
She hopes to use these learnings to help other young Māori artists and writers publish their own work, with a plan to take on submissions in the future.
